Oh boy, it's been awhile since I've checked in with news.  The vovos are settling in nicely in their Delray condo.  Gi is finishing up summer camp next week and enjoying her daily visits with Uncle Mark and Auntie Sara.  Hubby is working hard and enjoying his parents' permanent transition to south Florida.  And I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that Munch will be starting kindergarten come this August. Looking forward to a road trip to South Carolina with hubby and baby.  Life is moving along in the D household.  I'm grateful and feel blessed.  A big smooshy kiss to Auntie Sara for another round of great photos.

3 Moms

Finally all three moms can celebrate under one roof---my mom, my mother-in-law and me!  It was an extra special mother's day for us as my mother-in-law, Vovo Lydia, is finally close by and was able to join in the festivities.  We also got to celebrate, good friend, Auntie Jessie's birthday.  We had a great day and are very thankful for all that we have.

One Month Anniversary

Gi and the vovos before the Easter program
Today marks the one month anniversary of the vovos' move to Delray Beach, Florida!  We are so happy and relieved that they are finally close by.  On most days we have been busy helping the vovos get settled into their newly renovated condo and sharring lots of meals together.  Vovo Lydia is now the official nail painter for Munch.  And Vovo Joe Joe is still the bothersome "octopus" when Munch goes swimming.  We also need to thank Poh Poh and Gon Gon for helping the vovos make their transition into the leisurely life in Delray Beach.  All is well so far.  Hubs and I feel blessed to have both sets of grandparents in Gi's life.

Gold is King

Finally the pestering can stop.  My itty bitty Munch received her "promotion" last night in her karate class.  She is now officially a walking, sass-talking gold belt little powerhouse.  This girl is in karate heaven after weeks of drilling and grilling clueless me about the day and time of her coveted promotion.  Typical car conversation for the past two weeks:

Mommy, when will I get my gold belt?
Not for another two to three weeks, ok?
You mean tomorrow???
No, silly girl, it's going to be about 14-21 days from now.
After tomorrow?
No.
Way after tomorrow?
Yes, kind of.
That's too long!  I want my gold belt now!  Tell Sensei Dave I want my gold belt now!
You don't just get a gold belt because you want it.  You have to earn it, work hard, pay attention.
Well, well, well...I've been working hard, Mommy!
That's right, you have been working hard and you will get your gold belt soon.
Tomorrow, Mommy?

Various forms of the above conversation ran its course in the last couple of weeks.  I'm now going to enjoy this hiatus since Munch won't be getting her next promotion until at least 24 weeks from now.

Munch celebrated her promotion with a mini ice cream cake and got a new pair of light-up sneakers.

30 and 38

It's a milestone at the D household---Munch has finally reached 30 lbs and is almost 38 inches!  Boy oh boy with foodies as parents this child sure takes her time growing.  We celebrated the other night with a cake of Gi's choosing.  Of course, Sassy-Pants picked a vanilla one oozing with sweet frosting.  Since February marks her 4 1/2 years on earth, we also let Munch blow out 4 1/2 candles.  She told Hubs and I that she needed absolutely no help in blowing out the candles and that we were to give her all of the flower frosting on the cake.  Well, enough said.  We love the Munch and happily gave her all the calorie-laden frosting on the cake and then some.  Keep those pounds and inches coming, baby girl!!!

Universoul Circus

Hubs and Munch on an elephant ride

Is anyone surprised that Hubs is part of the clown show?

Hubs and three other audience members rely on each other to stay lying down
Yesterday, Poh Poh and Gon Gon treated us to a wonderful outing.  We all piled into the car and headed to Miami Gardens to see the Atlanta based Universoul Circus.  What raucous fun!  The performers came from all over the world---Cuba, South Africa, Gambon, the Caribbeans, Columbia, Chile, France just to name a few.  Munch and Hubs took an elephant ride around the ring.  Then off went Hubs with the clown to do a funny skit with three other audience members.  This did not sit well with Munch.  As the friendly clown led Hubs into the ring, Gi broke out in tears thinking that her daddy was being taken away by a stranger.  It took a few minutes of comforting before Munch could enjoy the show again.  After almost three hours of entertainment, the show came to an end.  We capped our day off with an early dinner at Silver Pond and a round of Chinese grocery shopping.  What a great family day!  Life is good and we are most thankful.

Hello Mr. Rabbit!

Some of the little firecrackers who posed for us towards the end of the fun evening.

I am surrounded by cuteness!

Hubs was more excited about the fireworks than the kids.  Big thank you to the R family for supplying the fireworks.

This past Saturday night, we got off to an early start to Chinese New Year.  Our family and good friends gathered at our house to ring in the year of the rabbit which, by the way, doesn't start till this Thursday.  Hubs and I feel so blessed to celebrate another year with the love of our life (sometimes pain in the you-know-what), Munch!  The kids had a wild blast complete with fireworks, a dragon dance, bunny ears and wonton making.  We must thank everyone for coming and bringing such righteous desserts! A special thanks to Poh Poh for helping the Ds plan and execute the menu for the evening.  We miss the vovos and hope that by next year they will become a regular fixture in our celebrations.  Gung hay fat choy to all of our family and friends near and far.

Happy Birthday Gon Gon

Ok, this is what happens when one of your parents celebrate his birthday according to the lunar calendar---you miss his birthday every year unless your mom reminds you weeks in advance that the big day is coming.  Well, it happened again this year.  The 3Ds once again let Gon Gon's birthday pass oblivious to the fact that this year, his big day fell on January 4th.  So we had a belated celebration at our house complete with an Italian feast.  Yes, an Italian feast because Gon Gon eats home-cooked Chinese every day and he loves a good western meal whenever the opportunity arises.  Gi and I made a red velvet cake.  Gon Gon never passes up a sweet dessert...very atypical for an elderly Chinese man.  Gi elbowed her way to the front of the cake when it came time for the birthday medley and strong-armed Gon Gon into letting her blow out the candle.  We ended the evening with a full belly and a quiet satisfaction that we helped Gon Gon ring in his 74th year of life.  Happy birthday, Gon Gon!

So Far in December

We had the pleasure of meeting Hubs' cousins  (Annie and Clayton) from Brazil.  They are happy newlyweds.

After attending two Little Dragon class, Gi got her white belt.  This child was estatic!

Giving Sensei Cara double high-fives after being given her white belt.
