What a joy to see Brea turn one! First Sammi, now Brea. The theme was, of course, ladybugs. Mama Kim made several ladybug cakes. Very yummy and creative! Papa Todd taught Brea how to eat cake with her hands. Grandma Vicki and Grandpa John laid out a spread fit for a king's feast. Brea and Sammi hugged, kissed and played with bubbles. And gift bags and tissue paper were THE toys to play with. Thank you for having us, Van Clan. Enjoy the pictures, everyone!
Welcome! We started this blog to keep our family and friends informed of our journey to Gigi and subsequently our life with her. Enjoy!

Happy Mother's Day
Van Visit

Hubs and I had a great visit with the Van Clan yesterday. Mom and daughter are doing fine. We saw Brea kiss her mommy, walk with assistance and munch on crackers. She is such a smiley baby! Kim, once again, enlightened and entertained us with funny stories and parenting/adoption tips as we snacked on yummy cupcakes. Thank you for the birthday goodies. We missed you, Todd!

Goodies
My sis and bro-in-law are in town! I am spending every free minute I have with my sister. She is in town to present at the state TESOL conference in WPB. As promised she has brought down some of the items that she has made for Gigi. I'm so lucky to have a sister who doesn't mind sewing. My favorites include a giant diaper bag made with quilt squares, the "100" quilt and the reupholstered cushions for the mommy glider. Now I have three diaper bags--- two Curious Georges and an original from my sis!

Very Nice High Five!
What fun it was to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon with Wendy and Sammi! Both mother and daughter are doing well. We munched on burgers and fries at Doc's and strolled down Atlantic Avenue. Sammi, as usual, was a delight. I even acquired a new painting to add to my collection, a certain still life of turtles done in nontoxic acrylic from an up-and-coming young artiste. Life is good. Thank you Wendy, BorEd and Sammi for making my 41st birthday even more memorable.

Anticipation

Just got an email from our agency instructing us to download the pre-placement packet after 9:00 p.m. tonight. Yippee! We are one step closer to getting our referral. The pre-placement packet is the last packet to download prior to receiving one's referral. Oh where oh where is our referral??? So much anticipation!

Joe D Club
Don't get me wrong. I adore my in-laws. My mother-in-law, Lydia, is a lovely lady, sweet, kind and gentle. My father-in-law, Joe, however, is a pistol. Guess that's where hubs gets his spunkiness from. Over the years, I have sat down to many a good meal with Joe. Hubs and I would always look in wonder at how much seafood Joe could consume in one sitting. But nothing compares to our amazement at how Joe's shirt and belly always functioned as an adult bib. No matter the amount or kinds of foods that Joe delighted in, roughly 20% of it would land on his shirt and on the floor around his chair. Crumbs would cling for dear life on his clean shirt until just the most subtle of movement would condemn them to the floor surrounding his chair like police tape surrounds a body. Drops of sauces would invariably find their way to a comfortable spot just above Joe's belly. Hubs and I would openly snicker about Joe's dining finesse all the time. Well, tonight, I snicker no more because I have joined my father-in-law in the messy-eater club. While enjoying some Mississippi Sweets with hubs, I unknowingly splattered my t-shirt with enough bbq sauce to fill a measuring spoon. I only discovered this after walking up and down the grocery aisle with hubs under harsh fluorescent light. So, Joe, hubs and I dedicate this entry to you!

Sunny Days Are Here Again
Last night was a joyous evening for us. Not only did we celebrate my mom's birthday but we also welcomed the G Family home from China. With a few three-stooges like moments, Wendy and I made our way back to PBIA to greet the new family just shortly after midnight. Gary, Jamie, Gable and Sunny looked great! Sunny is a delicate peanut. She raised her tiny hand slowly with an index finger pointing at us. Wendy and I both touched her index fingers with ours. Kinda like an E.T. moment. Like Brea, Sunny is also fond of flashing her adorable smile. Congratulations!
April Baby

My mom is an April baby also. Last night, hubs and I celebrated her 66th birthday. We chowed down at Gol! in Delray Beach. My dad even skipped the salad bar going straight for the prime cuts of meat. Believe it or not, Gol! would also make a great vegetarian restaurant. The gourmet salad bar has an enormous selection. The gauchos not only serve yummy grilled meats at your table but also fish, shrimp, potatoes and pineapple. The salmon with the passion fruit sauce is quite delish. Happy birthday, Mama C!

Doing Swell

Well, hubs and I lucked out again. We got to visit with the new V family tonight. All seem to be doing well. Little Brea was, once again, all smiles. Kim and Todd were a wealth of information and humorous stories. I can't wait to see Brea and Sammi playing together. The adults watching will o.d. on cuteness!

41

Today I am officially 41! Although I tell everyone that hubs is a year older than me, for a couple of months out of the year, we are actually the same age. He whisked me off to 32 East for a yummy birthday dinner. Upon returning to our table after visiting the little girl's room, I discovered a small wrapped box underneath my napkin. Hubs surprised me with a ring that had little diamonds set in a floral design. What a treat! We toasted to Gi, our family and friends and to ourselves. Hugs and kisses to those who made my 41st year so memorable.

A New Family
Most exciting event happened last night. Our friends, Kim and Todd, came home with their beautiful daughter, Brea. We greeted them at the airport with much joy and anticipation. The happy parents were a little tired but Brea looked healthy and content. We couldn't wait to snap pictures of the new family. Congratulations, guys!
